Guidebook Editor
Rick Steves' Europe has an opening for a full-time guidebook editor starting March 15, 2012. The closing date for applications is February 20.
Tasks
The job includes editing Rick Steves' guidebooks and articles; reviewing maps and manuscripts; working on phrase books; and more. The ideal candidate will help us maintain the high quality of the bestselling series and will meet the following qualifications.
Qualifications
- B.A. or B.S.
- Minimum of seven years of editing and writing experience, ideally on guidebooks
- Equal proficiency in content editing, copy editing, proofreading, and writing (though the bulk of the job involves editing)
- Commitment to accuracy
Ability to:
- Easily switch from book to book, and between editing files and reviewing manuscripts
- Focus on details as well as an entire book
- Convey guidebook information in a user-friendly manner
- Spell correctly (including foreign words)
- Manage your time efficiently and meet deadlines dependably
- Handle multiple, concurrent tasks and projects
- Work well independently and as part of a team
- Stay good-natured under the pressure of a tight production schedule
Pluses
- European travel experience, ideally using Rick Steves' guidebooks
- Familiarity with any major European language
- Experience with multimedia formats (blogs and web content)
Note that the work has to be done on site in Edmonds, WA.
