Nude Beaches — All the Skinny: 2008
Europeans are great sun-worshippers — and they seem to worship the sun best in their birthday suits. Nude and topless beaches and parks abound...so sooner or later you'll find yourself surrounded by naked Europeans. We'd love to hear your advice: "When in Rome, do as the Romans do"...or maintain your American modesty? Where exactly do you put a moneybelt when you have nothing else on? And of course, we want to know where your favorite nude or topless beaches in Europe are!

In regards to your comment about Rich in LI and the links being anti-gay...sorry babe, I just don't see what you're talkin about. He's right about pervs at the nude beaches on Long Island. I've been to them and I've seen it for myself. No one needs to go to the beach and see some loser standing there fondling himself and posing like he's some frigin super model. As far as Fire Island getting the stereo-type for being all gay...HELLO!!!! It's true...mention Fire Island and most people think GAY HANGOUT! I'm gay and even I agree with that. Most people equate Fire Island with Gay folks. It's ok to be sensitive about homophobia, but being totally uptight is another thing all together.

I've grown up here in Southern California. And I remember when (not long ago) you could go to a nude beach without any problems. I live in Palos Verdes and we have a very good beach here for nude sun bathing and no one can feel free to relax clothing optional there any more. Such a shame!
Let's bring back the sun on our bodies. Our whole body!

The L.I. article link--approach with caution.
Caution about the article Rich in L.I. links to. It's anti-gay. For an overall accepting community, this is very sad. Many of these more public areas have "separated" areas, so that no one bothers anyone else. Even that's not good enough for some, it would seem.

Euro Nude Beaches
The best nude beach I visited was on the French Riviera but I never found out the name of the place. I know we found it while traveling between Nice and St. Tropez. It was a large beach area with the far end being completely nude (the rest of the beaches are almost always topless optional). There were also a few smaller nude beaches on the Spanish coast around Blanes which is between Lloret de Mar and Barcelona.

Guvano Beach in Cinque Terre
Never having a nude beach experience, my friend and I decided to try it out in Cinque Terre Italy. I had read about it in my guide book and decided to go. After getting off the train we walked for about 10 minutes until we got to the tunnel where you push a button and this big metal door suddenly creeks open. Then you walk for 15 minutes through the creepiest, dark, damp, abandoned train tunnel where you come out on the other side and paid the 5 Euro "toll" to this creepy guy in a shack. You then walk down the trail to the beach where 95% of the people there are old naked men who are staring at you especially being the only young women on the beach. The beach itself is rocky but it definitely was beautiful. We did go topless but it was a little uncomfortable being the only young women on the beach. If you go to Guvano, I would suggest having a male with you. Even though it was super shady, it was worth the experience and the interesting story to tell others!

European beaches
My wife and I have been to various nudist beaches in Greece, Croatia, Holland, Spain and the UK. Our favourites are in south Crete where there are numerous beaches to get an all over sun tan. As long as you show respect to family groups and older people who may not care for you going 'au naturel'. It is a great equaliser as (in our experience) people are friendly and are not concerned about your shape, colour etc. And of course a great sense of freedom.

No need to be embarrassed
i have to say that i was really worried about going naked for my first time for a really silly reason, lets just say that i am have a very small "manhood" for want of a better word and was really embarrassed by how small it was but like most people i just said what the hell i was gonna "go for it" and i am really glad i did.had the wrong idea altogether bout going nude, was expecting pointing and laughing, well there was actually 3 girls that giggled and laughed and made some unpleasant remarks when i walked passed about my size but i just said to hell with them and now just find its really relaxing now and try and go nude whenever i go on holidays. swimming nude is fantastic

Croatia Split
My girl friend and I are frequent visitors to Croatia, it is a great country for people who like to be nude by the sea. There are millions of opportunities to shed your clothes and it is considered very normal behaviour in Croatia. If you are visiting Split, there is a nude beach within walking distance from the city. Walk west out of town along to the Marjan beaches. The most Westerly beach has a 100m nude section on the end and it really very good. The water id clean and the beach is surrounded by trees and so is very natural. Amazing to be i perfect nature so close to major city!

Nude Beaches
We have been getting all over tans for some years now. Starting in 2000 while on a trip to the Medoc area of France all the regular camp sites were destroyed by a hurriane. The only one left was Monilivet Naturist camp site..so we camped for a week in the nude and had a wonderful time. Since then we have booked holidays with an eye on naturist beaches in the area. Such as Cuba - Coco Cayo island, Lanzarote - Papogyo, Murcia Spain, Key West. Since our little boy was born in 03 he has not had clothes on at a beach in our numerous holidays and indeed we would have great trouble getting him to wear anything expect factor 40 sun cream. We had a lovely time in Estapona in 07 for 10 days on the naturist beach and are heading to Nice in June and have already several beaches lined up to visit. It is the most natural way to be and we find wearing bathing suits very uncomfortable and restrictive. Just relax and go for it.

ALGARVE PORTUGAL NUDE BEACHES
As a couple of Irish naturists Our favourite ALGARVE PORTUGAL beach by far is Pria De Zavial which we have been to as often as possible it is the most beautiful beach we found and we are totally at ease taking of our clothes here as other couples and families we have seen returning on a regular basis must feel as comfortable as we did here, at the entrance to the beach is a great restaurant with very pleasant staff the beach is shallow and clean though waves can get moderately high some days.we will return next year to our favourite beach " Zavial " Hope this give a view of our experience of going naked on the beaches of Portugal REGARDS FRANCIS

Good FKK beach in Dubrovnik
For my money you just can´t beat teh Adriatic Riviera. I went to Dubrovnik and the "FKK" beach" on the nearby island of lokrum (30 minute boat ride) was much better than the water at Barcelona.

Caution!
I have to agree with most of the comments here. I first sunbathed nude in the Bahamas (out islands). They call it "going cowboy"? Anyway, it was great! Just one word of caution...if you aren't used to getting a lot of sun all at once.....use plenty of sunscreen!!! My husband spent half our honeymoon laughing at me and applying aloe vera to my entire body!
