Featured Departure: Tour London with 'Sir' Tom Hooper

Tom Hooper
Tom Hooper is one of London's premier guides — and he's ours!

Best of London in 7 Days — $1795 + air — Sept. 28 to Oct. 4, 2008

If you're tempted to dash off for a quick European getaway this fall, it's hard to beat a week in London with the amazing Tom Hooper.

A native of Cornwall, Tom tossed aside a career in law (as a barrister) to become one of Britain's most decorated tour leaders. He is a professionally qualified Blue Badge Guide, Chairman of the Guild of Guides, a Fellow of the Royal Geographic Society — and one of the outstanding guides who leads Rick Steves' Best of London tours. Tom also works for the Original London Walks Company, and is a popular local guide on Rick's Best of Britain and Paris-London tours.

But one honor that really makes Tom stand out is that Queen Elizabeth II has made him a Member of the British Empire for his services to British tourism. This makes our friend pretty close to being a knight, so we're in the habit of calling him "Sir Tom." (We look forward to the day when Tom is knighted for his wicked sense of humor, which leaves his tour members in stitches daily.)

We still have a few seats open for our Sept. 28th Best of London in 7 Days tour, which will be led by 'Sir' Tom Hooper. Not only will it be a fun opportunity to experience a great city in the company of a great guide, but this tour will set you back a cool hundred quid ($200) less than the 2009 version. Jolly good, indeed!

A recent tour member raves about Tom:

"Tom Hooper is fabulous! Fantastic memory for names and personal information on each tour member, incredibly patient and excellent at keeping the entire group interested in whatever it was we were doing. Tom is a supremely diplomatic combination of kindergarten teacher/Nobel Peace Prize laureate/historian/entertainer!"
