And How to Prepare for Travel Around this Event
The 2004 Summer Olympics will be taking place in Athens, Greece from August 13 to 29, 2004. The competition schedule includes 28 Olympic sports held at 37 venues, all located in or near the city of Athens.
You can find more information on the 2004 Athens summer Olympics by visiting the official website: www.athens2004.com.
Athens has been undergoing major renovation and construction over the past few years in order to prepare, not only for the Olympic games, but also for the millions of tourists that are expected to come cheer on all the athletes. If you are planning to visit Greece during the Olympics, be forewarned that Athens will be crowded and hot even more than it normally is in August. If you do not plan on attending the Olympic events, we highly recommend not going to Greece, or at least Athens, during the last two weeks of August 2004.
If you still plan on visiting Greece and Athens during the Olympics, you might want to consider taking in an event and imagine what it would have been like to be a spectator at the very first Olympic games. Expect sleeping accommodations in Athens during the Olympics to be extremely expensive and difficult to secure. Make your reservations now! If you don't want to take in the glory of the Olympics, consider skipping Athens altogether and concentrate your sightseeing time on the rest of the mainland, the Peloponnese Peninsula, and/or the islands.
