Hi from Rick: Happy Holiday Specials

Rick in Salzburg
Salzburg — near where Silent Night was first performed — is just one of seven destinations you'll enjoy in Rick Steves' European Christmas on PBS.

Dear Traveler,

In this month's festive Travel News, you'll learn about a new "Rick Steves' European Christmas" TV special we've created. This time last year, for 12 days of Christmas, we had two busy crews-a-filming: 12 carol concerts, 11 mugs of gluh wine, 10 living mangers, 9 happy families, 8 Christmas feasts, 7 Euro-cultures, 6 mistletoe kisses, 5 alternative Santas, 4 pounds of weight gain, 3 midnight Masses, 2 exhausted cameramen, and a festive hour of great new public television.

Soon after Thanksgiving, stations across the country will begin airing this show as a pledge special (the only way you can get a copy of the DVD). When will it appear in your neighborhood? We're making a list and checking it twice.

And there's lots more in this month's Travel News: discover Switzerland's top ten back door experiences; learn why travelers who plan ahead have more freedom than "free spirits"; and experience "Europe through the Gutter" with my 18 year-old son, Andy, via his wonderfully candid, politically incorrect travel journal.

And last but not least, we're celebrating the upcoming holidays with a flurry of activity in our Travel Store, with a classy "Rick Steves' European Christmas" companion book + music CD combo, 35% savings on travelers' gift packs, 20% savings on all my guidebooks, free packing cubes, and a 59-show DVD set. And get cheap $4.95 shipping through Dec. 15th…no matter how heavy you load the sleigh.

Happy travels,

Rick Steves
