Hi from Rick: Looking and Listening in Rome

Dear Traveler,
I spent a wonderful week with my family in Rome last month. A highlight for all of us was giving some of our new (and free!) Italy Audio Tours a whirl. They worked so well that our teenage daughter actually enjoyed listening to her dad's voice coming from her iPod. For me, having my eyes freed from reading the tours in my guidebook was a delight. By using an earbuds splitter, my wife and I were effortlessly immersed together in the wonders of the Forum, Colosseum, Pantheon, St. Peters Basilica and the Sistine Chapel. Savoring Michelangelo's Sistine frescos with the narration coming smooth and steady from our iPod made that visit our best ever.
In this month's Travel News, we'll link you to our dozen free Italy Audio Tours — produced and made free to you thanks to support from our friends at American Airlines. You'll also find articles on what's new in Eastern Europe this year, how to connect with travelers' tips on our Graffiti Wall, France's Mont St. Michel, a traveler's Turkish ATM adventure — and my recent, politically eye-opening visit to Washington, D.C.
By the way, in my "test flight" of our audio tours I found one tiny fault: in St. Peter's Basilica I became so engrossed in the tour that I forgot to take my earbuds out and simply enjoy the worshipful hummmm of that incredible space. Once home, I tweaked the audio file. Now you'll find a point near the end where you can simply "be" under that greatest dome on earth.
Good listening goes hand-in-hand with great sights.
Happy travels,
Rick
