Travel Tales
![]() |
Every month we feature funny and inspiring travel anecdotes (and sometimes photos) from our readers. If you have a true (short) travel tale to share, send it to stories@ricksteves.com. If you have a photo that illustrates it, please attach it. And don't forget to tell us your first name and the city where you live. We'd love to hear from you!
Why Those Crazy Pictures?
When my son heard that his mother and I were going to Italy, the first thing he said to us was, "Don't take a Rick Steves' book with you." Of course being the kind and understanding parent that I am, I made up my mind right then to take at least two Rick Steves' books and I thought I might even buy more at the various airports.
As a result, once I got to Italy I took pictures of our Rick Steves' book at different locations, with different people and at least one animal. We thought Rick might get a kick out of the pictures.
All seriousness aside, we found outstanding tour guides, good, affordable places to stay and some excellent restaurants using our Rick Steves' books. We're now planning a trip to Croatia. We leave home on Sept. 24, and we've already found our first accommodations through Rick Steves' Croatia & Slovenia book. Honestly, the text in the book is much friendlier, and more personal and helpful than most other guide books.
