You too can Give Morocco a Financial Kiss on the Cheek

After this trip I wanted to find a way to inspire Americans to empathize with Moroccans. While I came home not pitying them and wishing for them a life of American-style materialism to make them happier, there are real needs in the average Moroccan neighborhood. One thing that was a striking revelation for me was how the relative joy and value of the same amount of money is vastly greater if spent in Morocco rather than in the USA. We visited the Association Amal Sale in the city of Sale across the river from Rabat. They provide educational summer camps for kids to spend two weeks away at the seashore at the cost of $31.
I would like to fundraise money for this Association Amal Sale. My challenge to anyone who has enjoyed traveling vicariously with me via this journal, and who would enjoy the opportunity to have a real impact on the life of a Moroccan student, is to ask you to donate the tuition for one child to go to summer camp.

On January 1, 2008, I will post on this site how many children we sent to summer camp. I'm happy that you read my journal whether you're moved or not to join in my fundraiser. But I promise you, if you could be there like I was, you'd know the joy this initiative will bring and you'd actually be thrilled to have the chance to chip in that $31.
