Page 129, photo of "Kings College Chapel" is mis-identified. This photo is actually of my favorite from our trip - the center of the ceiling of the Bath Abbey.

Just finished the 2007 edition of Europe 101. Here are a couple of corrections/revisions:

p. 96: the Viking Sights exhibit is missing the country after Alborg, _____

p. 121: You mention that the Muslims "fought to keep the blood-thirsty foreigners form desacrating the holy lands of Abraham, Isaac, and Muhammad." An interesting note is that Muslims believe that it was Ishmael (son of Abraham through Hagar who also is the ancestor of the Arabs) who Abraham was commanded to sacrifice--not Isaac.

p. 231: Mary I (Bloody Mary) ordered the execution of Protestant men, women, and children (not Catholic as the book states).

I'm not done reading the book but did come across a correction you may (or may not) wish to make. On page 18 there is an explanation of Egyption hierglyphs that compares them with Chinese characters. Egyptian hieroglyphs are said to contain phonograms and ideograms, the latter being compared to Chinese characters. This leaves the impression that Chinese characters do not have a phonogram element and many thousands do. These would be the Chinese characters that seem to have a left and a right side. I studied Chinese in what seems like another lifetime, but here is a link that will give the full explanation:

I realize this is a minor thing, but wanted to let you know for what its worth. I am enjoying the book.

The "Death of Socrates" painting by Jacques-Louis David pictured on page 202, and the painting by Claude Monet of the Rouen Cathedral on page 229 are not in Paris. Both are currently hanging in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. I just saw them last week in MMA's permanent collection.
