PortugalBest ways to improve this book:Book was fine, definitely enhanced and made possible our five star trip. George in Pittsburgh, PA USA 10/10/2009 Can't think of a thing. My husband and I have been 'traveling with Rick' since we graduated U of W in '86 - we wouldn't think of leaving Seattle without a copy of whatever Rick's written. (And we LOVE Travel as a Political Act too!) Hillary Slawson in Seattle, WA USA 08/15/2009 To give include medical information. I was ill and visited the urgent care at da Luz Hosptial you could pay cash-visa, helpful and spoke english. Carmen in Los Angeles, CA USA 07/15/2009 Consider putting in the GPS cooridinates for some of your hotels/towns. Some of them are hard to find! Carol in Atlanta, GA USA 05/28/2009 Don't cram so much into a day in Lisbon or Sintra. Given the time it takes to get from one place to another, you can't do everything recommended unless you stay on the go for 12-14 hoursa day. Brenda VanAmburgh in Fort Worth, TX USA 05/17/2009 Provide more than one option for things such as local tours. By the time we found an alternative to Policarpo's in Evora (they now require a min of 4 people to tour the megaliths), it was too late to schedule anything else. Colette in Cottage Grove, OR USA 06/29/2008 Offer explicit advice on what to do on Mondays, as so many places are closed. Also point out more strongly that most museums are free on Sundays until 1 or 2. Maybe a "weekly guide" that would be a grid that would suggest which days are best for each type of thing, say with each day across the top, each area as a row, and which works best (avoid beaches on weekends, sintra is great on monday, belem and other museum districtrs great on Sunday, etc.) Christopher Allen in Berkeley, CA USA 05/05/2008 The book was a fanstatic help to us. F. & C. Weiss in Victoria, BC Canada 05/03/2008 I believe the guidebook seriously underestimates the beauty and importance of the monastery at Batalha. This is one of the finest Gothic buildings I've ever seen. David Dooley in San Diego, CA USA 03/31/2008 I would have loved a map of Sagres, even a small one. Also, I could have used a few more translations of soups--I never saw the soups mentioned in the book; there were a lot of other ones, though. Kyla Gurganus in Ypsilanti, MI USA 01/05/2008 The maps could have more detail, especially in places with tiny alleys (Alfama / Bairro Alto in Lisbon, Bairro Santa Cruz in Seville). Some roads are not named in these places. Uma Murthy in Blacksburg, VA USA 01/03/2008 Keep the casual and witty narrative. Helps to reduce any tension build-up. Don Karpen in Talent, OR USA 10/16/2007 Forget about Nazare, and include more of the Duoro Valley Cort Cramer in Watertown, MA USA 10/02/2007 More photos (yes, I know it would increase the price, but as a value proposition, I'd be willing to pay more to get more ...) Jason Zielonka in Doylestown, PA USA 08/30/2007 Getting to the Gulbenkian Museum in Lisbon. The directions in the 2007 Portugal book are terrible. Should provide street names and distances rather than "walk downhill". Bus is so easy but never mentioned. Should include name of sight in Portuguese, not just Enlglish. Fan in Rockville, MD USA 08/18/2007 We own about 18 Rick Steves' travel related books. I would like to encourage the use of numbers on all maps and then the number cross referenced into the text to find easier. This is done for the Paris walks in Marais and Rue Cler and it makes it SO much easier!!! I think it should be used for all maps, hotel restaurant, everything. Also, on the pages that list places 'at a glance' which i call the 'top sites' at the end of each description (usually the hours) put page number to find the site. I usually write it in the column of outside page for quick finding. We have found the use of these books very valuable! Thank you! Suzanne in APO, AE USA 08/06/2007 Info was very helpful, but Duoro Valley seems presented as an afterthought. We found the area quite worthwhile for drivers. Marcy Nicklas in Frederick, MD USA 07/23/2007 I loved it... the entire trip we kept asking... "What does Rick say?" Marty in Vaughn, KY USA 07/02/2007 Note that if you take the train from Lisbon to Fatima, you will be stuck with a large taxi fare. No one told us that, and there were upset people in the train station pooling their money so they could get to Fatima. Pam Balthazar in Katy, TX USA 05/24/2007 Cover Porto. The city is wonderful, but not if you try to drive in it. The Port lodges in Vila Nova de Gaia are definitely worth a visit. Second point, I have not checked this year's book, but the Lisbon fado museum (near Santa Apolonia) is really wonderful. Some of the visuals are a bit simple, but it is a great intro to fado. Tom Farmer in Santa Ana, Ca USA 05/18/2007 Porto and the Douro Valley were possibly our favorites, but the guidebook puts this area last on the list of sightseeing priorities. If you have only a few days in Portugal, don’t skip Porto and the Douro Valley! Also, the book should better prepare readers for the driving hazards in the Douro Valley. Vicki Phillips in Denver, CO USA 05/17/2007 The book is great and we look forward to using your other guide books in the future on our next trip David Seto in North Brunswick, NJ USA 01/01/2007 |
