2013 England Page 29 Reserving Rooms as You Travel Most TIs can book you a room and may charge up to £4.00. They may also collect 10% of the accommodation. Although this means the B&B gets less, 90% is better than NIL, and the fees help the TIs to remain open, as most are run by volunteers with little or no funding. The British Government pays nothing to run the TIs. The B&B gains a booking and the guest does not spend time, fuel and effort searching for a B&B or hotel. It is cheap and a win-win for everyone.

2013 England Page 28 Making Reservations Requesting a Reservation through a hotel or B&B's own website does not give the best rates if they use a Booking Directory - look at the address bar to see where the booking page is located. It can be cheaper to email or phone. Commission can be 15+% and someone has to pay. If you don't get a response to an email - send another to a different address if they show one, or phone. Your email, or their reply, could be lost or delayed; it happens more often than is realised.

Yes, I think so. Page 780, under "Visiting the Museum," instead of "centuries" shouldn't it be "centurions?"

Might mention that most of the land you'll be tramping over during walks around the North of England is privately owned and still very much in use for pasturing sheep and cows. It isn't out of the ordinary to walk right through the middle of someone's farm and come face to face with sheep in their field. Some Americans might find this odd but it is a nice caution and warning to not disturb the animals.

The Orangery at Kensington Palace only serves afternoon tea after 3 pm. The guidebook says noon, and they only serve lunch from 12-3. Also, the Robin Hood Hotel in Blackpool does not allow children.

Map of Bath in the front of the book shows "connected" roads (like at the end of the Royal Crescent at Marlboro and on one of the bridges) that aren't thoroughfares. Tired drivers and navigators disoriented by driving on the left in a strange town may not be speaking by the time they get to their destination.

Just one - and I suspect you've heard it already. The Travel Information office by Piccadilly Circle has closed down. The new one across the street from St. Paul's is very nice, but doesn't seem to be on the scale of the one described at Piccadilly.

At least in the Kindle version all the Stow-on-the-Wold phone numbers are missing some digits. For example, Little Broom B&B is shown as 01451/8510 but the correct number is 01451 830510. I don't know if this is restricted to Stow but some other numbers I tried from other cities were correct.

London 2011 Cambridge Small mistake p.464 in the description of the RAF bar in the Eagle Pub: The US Air Force was not formed until 1947. The pilots you are referring to were members of the Army Air Corp.

According to the guidebook, entry to the Meridian Courtyard and Flamsteed House at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich is free. According to the corrections on the website, it now costs 10 pounds. We experienced neither; we paid 7 pounds and 50p for admission.

the town house in bath: appear to be closed. I received this in response to an inquiry: Thank you for your enquiry. We are sorry but we are taking a break from B&B and are thus unable to accommodate you for the dates that you require.

Book says we can go from Heathrow to Bath (Bath spa) on the coach. National Express disagrees. No such coach on the schedule. Search on same page gives coaches to Stratford-upon-Avon, but not Bath.
