Croatia & SloveniaBest ways to improve this book:As a traveler who already lives in Europe, I am probably in the minority. However, we thought it would have been helpful to have a bit more detail on what is needed and what to expect when crossing the borders. For example, the book indicates that the drive from Dubrovnik to Kotor should take about 3 hours, however, it took us about 4 and a half including the delay at the border. In addition, there were several documents which we didn't have. The book says to tell your car rental agency where you are going so that they can make sure you have everything, but we actually drove our own car. Otherwise, a great book! We had yours along with Lonely Planet & then a German publication and we ended up using your book the most frequently. Rose in Frankfurt am Main, Germany 11/04/2009 Include information on Zadar. Gary Lingenfelter in Stanwood, WA USA 09/25/2009 Mention if you take the Montenegro tour with Atlas that does the hairpin turns on a huge tour bus, you might mention that this is not for those afraid of heights. Montengro Blue, stays down near the bay. Pat Vinkenes in Arlington, VA USA 09/13/2009 Inform readers about the cigarette smoke in restaurants and surrounding environments in Croatia and Slovenia. I tried to prepare myself and never complained, but I have asthma and it was tough at times. I had to retreat to my air conditioned apartments supplied with food from the fish and produce market on some evenings to cleanse my lungs. [Editor's Note: We try to keep up with smoking regulations, but they keep changing in some countries. In May 2009 Croatia banned smoking in bars and restaurants but in September 2009 they REPEALED the ban. Be sure to check our guidebook updates Web page for the latest information.] Amy Kileen in Bakersfield, CA USA 08/20/2008 Sarajevo chapter; beefed up Zagreb chapter Evan in Seattle , WA USA 07/10/2008 No suggestions - great book, used it to organize what turned out to be a wonderful trip and used it every day on the trip to more fully enjoy the sights. Jeanne Barsanti in Watkinsville, GA USA 06/09/2008 Hi Rick, I just recently returned from Croatia and your book was great! Just an idea for all your travel books. As is normal when travelling you meet people and discuss other places you've been or where you're from, etc and it's always nice to have a WORLD MAP handy to pinpoint the location you're talking about... and everyone learns something. I really really think you guys should add a WORLD MAP to each of your travel books. Wouldn't cost much and I think people would get a lot of use out of it. I live in Paris and keep a WORLD MAP in my briefcase and you wouldn't believe how many times I pull it out at a café to provide a visual to our discussion. ADD A WORLD MAP! You'll only get positive feedback! Matt Matt in Paris, France 05/19/2008 The only feedback I have is that I couldn't find some of the sites mentioned in your book on the maps. It would be really helpful if they corresponded better because the places you mention are sure to be amazing. Liz in San Francisco, CA USA 12/10/2007 Your travel books a very helpful. We always had it with us. Lana Gilster in Minneapolis, MN USA 11/09/2007 more in for Budva and Beechie. its not that bad Sarah in Hoboken, NJ USA 11/09/2007 Provide directions from Predjama Castle to Tourist Farm Hudicevic. I could see there was a closer route rather than going back to Postojna, but the locals kept pointing us back in that direction and we wasted a lot of time getting there. Linda in Torrance, CA USA 11/04/2007 We couldn't have been happier with the recommendations in the guide book. Just one addition, if you can: about where to park your rental car in Dubrovnik. If you want to stay in or close to the old city, a car is a liability. Our host helped us find a parking spot on the night we arrived, but 2 days later, returning from our Mostar excursion, we had to wait 45 minutes before a spot opened up. Christl Kasler in Walnut Creek, CA USA 10/31/2007 Great book; we followed a lot of your recommendations and all of them worked out just fine. I will have my fondest memories about Croatia. Milena in Chicago, IL USA 09/25/2007 I'd add a section on the wine region of Goriska Brda to the book. It's a lovely section of the country right next to the Italian border, so a logical stopover for car travellers in that direction. We had a nice tour of the large coop winery in Dobrovo. They get a weekly UK bus tour, but otherwise English-speaking tourists are rare. It was one of the most personal tours we've had in Europe. Dave in Philadelphia, PA USA 09/04/2007 I think the first advice in the book is the best... Rovinj is a touristic beach town with a lot of atmosphere. The best idea is to choose a restaurant for the setting and forget about finding a truly gormet experience. Even one of your other "notables", Veli Joze, was less than notable... mediocre food and poor service from a wait staff that seemed more intent on processing customers than serving them. They were very busy though. It seems as long as the guide books keep mentioning their name, they will do as little as they have to. Mike Michaelis in San Jose, CA USA 08/27/2007 |
