Best and worst restaurants:
Worst: Resturants in Sorrento
Why: We went to Ristorante Pizzeria da Gigino at 1:15 in the afternoon in Sorrento Oct 9, 2012. They had people at tables inside and out with several open tables but they insisted that they were closed. After we took so much time to find this restaurant I was disappointed and asked if they could recommend another restaurant that was open. They wouldn't answer me and looked past me even after I asked a second time. Another person following the Rick Steves guide book was also turned away very rudely. You should really investigate this restaurant prior to making this recommendation. We also went to Ristorante Pizzeria Lanterna Due and they had no one seated at any tables inside. I have a rule not to eat at any place with no customers so we eventually found a cafe that was not recommended by Rick Steves.

Best: Taj Mahal in Dubrovnik and Scholarhio Ouzeri Louklis in Athen.
Why: At the Taj Mahal we enjoyed sitting in the shade and listening to an orchestra rehearsal while we ate delicious chevaps--an amazing dish!. The Athens restaurant was the best meal of our entire vacation. The owner saw my son looking at the book to confirm that this was the place and he said, "You are coming with Rick Steves" Come in!" The meal was simply amazing and delicious. They brought us another bottle of mineral water when we finished the first one, offered us more dessert, and gave us ouzo on the house, probably because we were so enthusiastic about the meal. Truly a memorable event of our trip!
