2011-2012 Blu-Ray Set
@Editor, I appreciate the response and that there are some new Blu-Ray releases, but I was more interested in the latest 10 shows released as a single Blu-Ray set (as a continuation of the 80-episode set that I currently have). Thanks!

Galicia and Northern Spain
I just finished watching the new episode on Galicia and the Camino de Santiago (Northern Spain). As always, the production is top notch and Rick's insight is right-on. However, I must admit that I was somewhat disappointed with the content of the program. In my humble opinion, there was far too much time spent on the journey followed by the pilgrims and not enough on the destination itself. Santiago de Compostela is a gorgeous city and a pleasure to visit. Rick does cover the area in much more detail in the Spain Guide Book. The missing essentials, I feel, included stops in Cantabria, e.g. Santillana del Mar and Santander; in Asturias (e.g. The Picos de Europa National Park and Covadonga); and other Galician destinations (e.g Lugo and its Roman Wall and the gorgeous setting of La Coruna as sell as The Rias Bajas/Vigo areas). I am comparing this show to those in Southern Spain and to the ones for the various regions in France and I think that this one lacks the Galician one lacks the depth and breath of the other shows.

New Series in Blu-Ray?
Are there any plans on releasing the new series in Blu-Ray as a standalone package? I have all of the DVD's so far and would really like to just pick up the new series in Blu-Ray. Thanks!

All I Want for Christmas Are Rick Steves Blu-Rays
About 10 years ago, I purchased the VHS tapes for the 1990-98 seasons of Rick's original PBS travel show. I always meant to by the DVDs of the 2000-08 shows but never did. Now with Blu-ray being the new medium, I'm dreaming of the following "Ultimate Collectors" set for BR -
All shows from all seasons 1990-2010-the '90s shows are somewhat dated but still fun to watch and compare with the new ones to see all the changes to Europe and to Rick. All the specials including Iran, European Christmas, Travel Skills (including the late '80s PBS travel specials that started the whole series), and shows made specifically for the pledge drives. The bonus features could include the Political Act lectures, tour previews, Rick's slideshow presentations, the ELCA videos, and of course the blooper reels. Also, think of the possibilities with internet connectivity from the discs.

2009 vacation in Poland
I like your show, since it is very educational. I get to know about places that I have not been to. Last year, I was fortunate to go to Warsaw, Poznan and Wroclaw with my family. It was nice being with friends in Poland as well. I liked the garden where Frydriyk Chopin is buried. I liked walking threw the Wroclaw and looking at the buildings and the little gnomes statues through out the city. Even though I did not get to stay there for very long in Poland, I really appreciated being in a place. My family and I enjoyed the food and the places in Poland, and I hope that you might as well. I hope that there can be a show based in Poland, since it would be really interesting to show on PBS and through out the US as well. I hope that Rick Steves can enjoy going to Poland as much as my family and I did?

IRAN
Thnk you so much for your program on Iran.
What a beautiful country and people. The people seem so friendly and happy. Maybe some laws are strick, but modesty rules. No so in the USA. Seems as though the women are treated fairly and can get a good education. So impressed with country's ancient history. Would love to go there to see ancient ruins if country allowed it. Not crazy about the anti American graffitti. Thank you Rick for such an informative program about a country we know little about. Wish the show was an hour long. Saw it on the Create station.

Denmark
My mother and I enjoy watching your programs together especially the ones on Scandinavia. If you say that Denmark did not do enough against the nazis why don't you mention that individual Danes used their small fishing boats to rescue almost all of the more than 7,000 Danish Jews in 1943 before they could be sent to concentration camps like the French Jews while 40 million frenchmen stood by and watched. Just search 'Danish resistance in WW II" for a bibliography of true accounts of how Danish Jews were sent to Sweden! by their danish friends!

I really enjoy your shows, but am surprised that you have not yet done a program on Slovakia, which has such a rich history, gorgeous and unspoiled Medieval towns, and some very beautiful natural areas such as ice caves, the Tatra Mountains and Slovak Paradise National Park.

Rick is Awesome
we love Rick Steves... I so enjoy watching his PBS programs and can't wait to get my own copies. My dream is to travel the world and homeschooling my children at the same time. BTW I am Christian and think S is very open minded but definately believes in God (this is a comment on someone elses thoughts on his faith). We also LOVED his talks at the Hempfest in Seattle WA and on TV the other day about our Civil Liberties! We NEED to take cues from what's working around the world and what so obviously is not working here. If you don't know what I am talking about check out what he says about the decriminalization of marijuana.

Thumbs Up/ Up Yours, Pal!
Given Rick's talk in his episode on Iran, expounding that learning more about each other's cultures can lead to friendship and a better world; and having heard that hand gestures mean different things in different parts of the world; I was shocked and concerned when Rick gave a friendly Iranian a "thumbs up." So, I looked it up in Wikipedia... "Thumbs up" traditionally translates as the foulest of gesticular insults in some Middle Eastern countries - the most straightforward interpretation is 'Up yours, pal!' ... In Bangladesh, Iran, and Thailand it is traditionally an obscene gesture, equivalent to the use of the middle finger in the Western world." Why has this episode not been re-edited in the interest of friendship & a better world? [rhetorical Q.]

Rick's Film Producer
I have all of Rick's DVD's and still watch him on TV all the time. I often wonder: If someone started watching his videos and didn't know who Simon was; they might think: "my God, this guy is following him all over Europe[INVALID]He's being stalked by this guy!"

Not sure what episodes you are watching. I am a Pastor and find nothing negative coming from RS about Christianity. It is also VERY clear that he is a Christian, he speaks of his church and faith quite often. Besides...even if he was not a christian and had a negative view of Christianity...it's a travel show!
Only listening to people who think, act and believe only exactly as you do is the antithesis to good travel and the example of Jesus.

Why isn't Rick on the Travel Channel?
I love that your program is only on PBS and not the Travel Channel, so fewer people know of your destinations. I guess the Travel Channel prefers to show ridiculous content, like where to find the best hotdogs in America. Other than Anthony Bourdain and Samantha Brown (both wonderful) there isn't much on there making for decent viewing. Oh well, the TC's loss is our gain.
As for a previous comment about Rick's voice, I find it rather mellow and not annoying in the least. And I also find Rick's comments on Christianity quite respectful. Keep doing what you're doing, Rick!

My two kids and I tried to do the ETBD; bought three of your guidebooks on Italy and they were very helpful. Thank-you for the ideas and details you provide the reader. In Rome, we stayed at the Hotel Victoria, it is not in your list; but we really liked it. Cleanliness, large bathroom, and an excellent breakfast were the things we like about this hotel. Your guidebooks provided details which were informative and safe. Thank you.

Rick Steves
Rick Steves has the most annoying voice on TV. Even though I watched his shows in the past to see various countries, oftentimes my husband and I would pick up oftentimes veiled negative comments about Christianity from him. It's obvious his leanings are toward secular humanism, which I personally don't want to see on a travel show. So I don't watch him anymore.

Bavaria
We watched your show on Bavaria and saw two castles featured built by/for King Ludwig. You missed a third one, on Chimsee, Herreninsel, which is built on the style of Versailles, minus the two side arms... so Ludwig is responsible for 3 well-known castles in his time.

What I have come to appreciate about Rick's show is a deep sense of humanism, tolerance, appreciation of cultural diversity, and an understanding of the value of the arts. It is not just a travelogue; it is an ongoing demonstration of progressive democratic humanism.

Harding Hotel, Dublin
Dear Rick,
I was browsing in a Book Shop the other day and saw your guide for Ireland 2010 in it you gave high ratings to my favorite little hotel in Dublin, the Harding Hotel. Not only that but you also gave good marks to the Copper Alley Bistro connected to the hotel. Rick, I stayed 2 times in 4 months at the Harding, Dec 5-14th 2009, and What should have been 10 days in April 2010 became 17 due to Volcanic Ash. The people at the Harding became friends (from the bar staff, dinning room) and they all looked after me, gave advice on tours, etc. The staff provides curteous service, and work hard everyday to ensure their guests a pleasant stay. Thanks for recognising them.

Awards for Rick's shows?
Don't know where else to post this, so I'll put it here. Watching Rick's shows today (my wife and I proudly own all his videos, even some very old ones before the "Rick Steves Europe" DVDs he now packages, when he looked like he was about 26!) I wondered suddenly why he has never won an Emmy, not to mention a Peabody, which I think would be more the caliber award that Rick, Simon and Karel deserve. Or have they????

Rick it was nice that you maid program about Poland.Half of the program you were talking about Jaws and Nazis, but you said nothing about Poles who risking their and their families lives(for helping a Jew,Pole and his family would be killed by Nazis and they would burn their entire village) ,saved hundreds of thousands of Jewish lives. In Tel-aviv there is a memorial for those who saved Jews and most names on this memorial are names of Poles!

Your Shows & DVD's
I've watched you on TV for a long time and truly enjoy your shows. As a matter of fact, we are planning a trip to Spain, and just may add the Dordogne region of France because of you!
Just wanted to say also that I suggested to my dentist that instead of showing slideshows and videos of peoples before and after "mouths," while we are in the "chair," travel videos would be nice. Well guess what? She invested in a whole collection of your DVD's, and now it makes sitting in the chair, just a little more enjoyable! And for instance, I never thought I'd want to go to Germany, but after seeing your video, it is now one of the places I want to visit! THANKS!

Ricks DVDs and Shows
I love watching Rick's shows. I'm on my way to Paris for the third time and each time before I go, I pop Rick's France DVD into the player and get a helpful hint each time I view. In addition, your episodes on the South of France/Province/Rivera were great and right on target. I really think anyone planning an overseas trip should do themselves a huge favor and invest in a DVD or two--or three--or four........and spend a couple of hours viewing Rick's trips to where you plan to go. They are as informative as Mr. Steve's is amiable and friendly!
