Rail pass question for Eastern Europe
Hoping someone can give me some advice on an upcoming trip.
Here is the itinerary for our 11 day trip.
Krakow 2 nights
Krakow to Prague (overnight train)
Prague 2 nights
Vienna 2 nights
Salzburg 1 night
Innsbruck 1 night
Appenzell 1 night
Zurich (Fly home)
My questions are is buying point to point tickets better than buying
a than buying railpasses, (Eastern Euopre railpass & Swiss rail pass)???
I want to make reservations for the overnight train ride and reserve a
2 ppl sleeper, can you reserve online?
any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

Hi,
My comments focus on traveling in Poland...great that you're going there.
I travel using a rail Pass but not when the trip is only 11 days and, definitely, not in Poland. No need for a Pass. Train tickets are a lot cheaper there than in France and Germany. Buying point to point is just fine.
Inside Poland itself I've done three long rides, Warsaw-Krakow, Szczecin (Stettin) to Gdansk (Danzig), Poznan (Posen) to Torun (Thorn)...all point to point tickets. Just get them at the station.
Hmm - you didn't say how old you are, or if you wanted 1st or 2nd class. If you want to go in 1st class cars, I still usually find a pass is cheaper - except as already noted, in Poland. Don't know how many times you've been to Europe, or how "cast-in stone" your itinerary is, but there's freedom in a pass - to add a side trip, etc. Your trip seems pretty tight, however. Good luck
Sandi
