18 Days in Scotland / England....ideas??

My wife and I are planning an 18 day trip from Edinburgh to London in June. Suggestions for hostels and low cost B & B's? Also, is there anything interesting to do on our way south from Edinburgh to the Lake District??

... Traveling from Edinburgh to the Lake District in England : I recommend ride in an express train to a train stop at or near the Lake District. When you leave the Lake district, go north to Carlisle: ride in the scenic train from Carlisle to the southeast over the Pennines to Leeds. Leeds is now an attractive town for vacationing people. Leeds is worth a half day. Be in York one whole day (two nights). In York I liked the B & B 23 St. Mary's. At Moreton-in-Marsh (in northern Gloucestershire) I liked the TreeTops B & B. It is located within easy walking distance of the train station. It is possible to travel in Busses to Moreton-in-Marsh from the Warwick Castle (via the little town Warwick, and Stratford-upon Avon). I do not recommend being a tourist in Stratford-upon-Avon. Bicycles can be rented at the town Moreton-in-Marsh, and at the little town Chipping Campden. A bus goes from Moreton-in-Marsh to Chipping Campden. Read about that area ("Cotswolds") in "Rick Steves' ENGLAND".

In Edinburgh in Scotland I liked the B & B : Turret Guest House, located near Dalkeith Road. I was there in June, 2003. It was not expensive. A good breakfast was included, served on tables in the parlor which has a good sofa and fire place. Fiona Mackie is friendly, a good inn keeper. Jimmy from Indonesia did a good job maintaining the plants and lawn, and cleaning the building. It is located near a bus stop for city busses going to the "Royal Mile".

ron, FYI - the owners of the turret guest house have sold it. I don't think it's a B & B anymore. They have since bought the Glenalmond House which I think is nearby on Dalkeith road. Here's a link http://www.glenalmondhouse.com/index.php

We had reservations at the turret, and they switched our reservation over to the Glenalmond at the same price, however I think the Glenalmond is a little nicer.
