Bomb sniffing dogs and a bananna

You may laugh but my backback was alerted by a bomb sniffing dog at the airport in Tel Aviv (by the way NO laughing matter). I'd had a bananna in it earlier on the flight. Potassium is also in bomb making material. Now I know why my backpack is always being swabbed...I carry a bananna to help with my blood pressure.

Are you sure it was a bomb sniffing dog and not a agricultural/customs type dog? Many airports use dogs that are specifically trained to smell-out food in order to protect the agriculture industry. Usually very small beagle like dogs are used. Israel actually grows bananas in the desert, so its a possibility.

I think dogs are used mostly for food and drugs. I got caught with a apple on a return trip from London. You would have thought I was trying to bring a kilo.

Nope it was most definately a bomb sniffing dog! This was politely and carefully explained to me by the dog's handler. (I'm guessing grey haired American matrons aren't part of the profile for bombers.)

Wow that is scary! Thanks for the update. I like to carry fruit for my daughter. I will be sure to bring a different bag on our trip.

Marie, I had to chuckle, but yes, no laughing matter. I guess from now on, its easier to separate the food and put in the top of the pack in a baggie.
