The passport back log is pretty well gone. I sure that is sufficient time BUT check with the passport web site.

Absolutely. We applied for our daughter's passport in April and had it in 6 days. Now we paid for the expedited service, but 6 days is good by anyone's standard.

New passport or renewal? Takes a bit longer for a brand new passport. Took me about 6 weeks to get my renewal. This was not by expedited service.

The State Department website tells how long it takes: http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/processing/processing_1740.html

Currently they're saying less than 4 weeks.

I applied for a new passport (first-timer) in March, and I got it back in less than 2 weeks.

Had my renewal back to me in under 4 weeks AND I am living in Canada. I was impressed how fast it was. It took a lot less time then my wife's Canadian passport renewal!

You should have enough time, just makes sure to have all the documentation in order so it doesn't get sent back because of an error.

I just applied for mine last month and it only took 2 weeks to get it. It came regular mail and I did not pay extra to get it quicker.

If he does it RIGHT NOW, he should be fine. If he waits, even a couple of weeks, he should pay extra for the rush order.

The Passport backlog isn't bad right now. It will probably get bad again when everyone starts realizing they will need one this summer.
