Anybody know the longest continuous stay as a tourist allowable in France without a visa?

I believe that without a visa you can stay in the entire Schengen area (most countries in western Europe) for 90 days max. That's all in one country or in all of the countries for a total of 90 days. After that you have to leave for 90 days.
