Steves book says 5 buses a day taking 6 and one helf hrs.A car is much better in my mind.

According to the Journey Planner at www.buseireann.ie, depending upon the time of day, the trip can take 6 1/2, 7, or 7 1/2 hours. Rent a car and take the Killimer-Tarbert ferry across the Shannon River. If you're in a hurry, after you cross the river go to Galway via Ennis. If you have more time, drive the coastal route.
