What is a quaint little village to relax in Europe?

We have a 17-20 day trip comming up, ranging from Poland to London, hitting czech, germany, netherlands.

What is a nice little village city to sit back and relax in? Spa, ski? just enjoy the snow and views?

I may even propose to my girlfriend finaly...haha

Check out the Oberallgäu, the upper Iller valley, around Oberstdorf. It's very pretty. Oberstdorf is a major ski area, as is the Kleinwalsertal.

Kent has a good point. German skiing is like New England, at it's worst. Oberstdorf rarely opens much before Christmas and they are "washed out" by mid-March.

I'd put in a bid for Reit im Winkl, just across the border from Austria and close to Salzburg.

In Austria it would be Neustift in the Stubai Valley.

Most other popular places will be booked, so you need to be creative (and book early also)

Yes, unless they have a very bad winter, they should be operating at that time. I was there a few years ago, for a week starting Dec 31, and they were skiing. The biggest ski mountain in the area, the Nebelhorn is only about 7000 ft at the top, but the town of Oberstdorf is at just over 2000 ft, so you get almost 5000 ft of vertical, more, I think, than any ski resort in the US. The town of Oberstdorf naturally looks like what Vail tries to look like. There is a Therme (what the Germans call a Spa) in Oberstdorf as well as one in nearby Sonthofen.

See the websites for Oberstdorf and Kleinwalsertal.

I went to Engelberg Switzerland in the fall and it was beautiful - during the winter it is a ski resort. We took a gondola up and paraglided down. Something I will never forget.

You could hold up a sign at the bottom as she lands.

There's a great inn called Gusthof zum Schluxen (www.schluxen.com) in the very small town of Pinswang, Austria. Very nice rooms, excellent restaurant and good pub. Pinswang is just across the German border - near Neuschwanstein and the larger Austrian town of Reutte. I've only been there in summer, but my recollection is that it's very popular with skiers in winter. If interested, you could e-mail them and inquire about skiing in the area. Note that this wouldn't be a great option if you're not planning to have a car.
