Dresden, Germany!

Hello everyone!

My mother and I are stopping in Dresden in August on our trip...

I am wondering if anyone knows some great places to stay, activities and what you thought of this city.

We have have Rick's book, but we appreciate recommendations from other travellers!

Thanks so much!

Julie:)

Dresden is a 3-star destination, highly recommended IMO.
What are you looking for re lodging, approx price range?
Dresden has risen from the ashes of the tragedy of a night in February 1945.
PM me if you want more info.

We stayed in Dresden one night on the Rick Steves Berlin, Prague and Vienna tour. Our hotel wasHotel Kipping, Winekelmanstrasse 6, Dresden 01069, 011 49 351478 500, Hotel-kipping-dd@t-online.de. It was a good hotel. It was near the train station.http://www.hotel-kipping-dresden.com/ We didn't have a lot of time in Dresden, but what we did have was wonderful. It's so amazing that so much is there to see despite the WW II bombing and firestorm. There is an English Bookstore there.

Juliane, I would second Pam's recommendation of Hotel Kipping. We stayed there 5 years ago, and it was very nice. Our room was huge, which was a nice change from the mostly small rooms elsewhere on our trip.

I've also stayed at Hotel Kipping and thought it was great. All the major museums and sights are close together along the river, making sightseeing very efficient. The historic center of Dresden is very scenic despite the fact that much of it is reconstructed.
