Rome: How to get to Castel Santi Angelo

Hi what is the best way to get to Castel Santi Angelo from Piazzza del Popolo? Does Metro line A exit Lepanto stop nearby? How long does it take if we walk? Thanks!

The Piazza del Popolo is right near the Arno River. Head west toward the river, but don't cross it. Turn left and walk down the riverfront. It should be more shady on this side of the river. This route will take you right past the Mausoleum of Augustus and the Ara Pacis. Walk all the way down until you are directly across from the Castel and cross at the Ponte Sant' Angelo. It's a great view! It might take you 30 to 45 minutes to walk this distance. Check out Google Maps for a better idea.

Um, actually the Arno is in Florence. It's the Tiber (Tevere in Italian) that runs through Rome.

Another idea is to consider seeing it after visiting the Vatican, it is technically just down the road.

I'd do what Claire suggests, but if you want to do it from Piazza del Popolo, according to Google Maps, it is a 20 minute walk to Castel Sant'Angelo.

From the Lepanto or Ottaviano metro stops, it's still a 15 minute walk down to the Castel, according to Google, so I don't see much benefit in waiting for the metro.

Probably to avoid the "most" walking you can take the Metro from Flamanio to Lepanto and catch the 280 bus; Ride 5 stops --- or you could go Flaminio metro to Ottaviano, walk to Piazza Risorgimento and catch either the 23, 271 or 982 bus. Go two stops to stop P.ZA PIA/CONCILIAZIONE...

All four of these buses stop directly in front of Castel Sant'Angelo. If you need more info on riding buses in Rome, CLICK HERE . And if you need help on the metro, CLICK HERE
