Honfleur is lovely, and arguably worth a trip. But with such a short amount of time, chose to sleep near the sights you want to see.

Honfleur works well with that stretch of seacoast and some time in Rouen, not so well with the D-Day beaches or Mt. St. Michel. For example.

doug,

If you're planning to tour the beaches (especially with an organized tour such as BattleBus), I think Bayeux might be a better location to consider.

It's a wonderful town and while there you could also have a look at the famous Bayeux Tapestry which provides an interesting depiction of the Battle of Hastings which took place in 1066. There's also a WW-II Museum in Bayeux.

Happy travels!

Even if you don't care so much about the D-Day sites, I highly recommend staying in Bayeux. We love it there. We did not like Honfleur at all. Spent 2 nights there last August and couldn't wait to leave.

We loved Honfleur. But also enjoyed Bayeux. See what is better for your schedule. Honfleur is quite small and a strolling village for R&R. If you need a budget hotel option there try Etap Hotel.

We found Bayeux to be a great location. We went on a D-Day beach tour from Bayeux, and also did a long day trip to Mont St. Michel and beyond. A highlight of our trip, albeit a long day. Bayeux was a great place for a base camp and served us well for B&B's and restaurants.
