No need to stay "airport close" as Athens is so near, but if you insist on being across the street and have $300 to spare then this is the place for you.
Sofitel Athens Airport ATHENS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT SPATA, 19019 GR
The hotel is located opposite Athens International Airport just 10 kilometres from museums and 27 kilometres from Athens city centre. After 31 hours of flying it was nice to find our hotel so close to the airport. Love the staff speaks English. Love the idea you need your key for the elevator to get to your floor. Hate the idea you need your key to turn on the lights. Loved the bathroom with robes and slippers. Hate no night light to find the bathroom in the middle of the night. Love the window covering. It was a sliding wooden shade that completely blocked light. Our tour company hated they had to drive all the way to the airport to pick us up and charged extra for our tour. It seemed to be only about 15 minutes into Athens proper. The bed was fine and it should be for over $300 a night. I find that a little expensive to spend the night.
Yes 330 hundred is expensive. i am staying at the electra palace at 300 p/n for three days so another 300p/n doesnt do much for me. I wanted a rooftop pool with view as i may never be in athens again with my mother, and wanted her to sleep with a view of the parthenon ! thanks any tour guide info out there ?
There are two small hotels within 20 minutes of the airport, the St. Thomas B&B and Peri's Hotel. Both have websites and both are quite affordable. St. Thomas offers a transfer to a Metro station and Peri's offers free shuttle service to and from the airport between 7am and 11pm.
The Attika Avenue Holiday Inn is a bit further away and also has a shuttle.

I stayed in the Peri's last weekend and the hotel was fine, the airport transport efficient, and the people very friendly and helpful.
There's a very nice taverna about five minutes walk away, but other than that nothing within about twenty minutes.
Fine then for a functional overnight stop - we arrived at 6 in the evening and left for a Rafina boat at 6 the next morning - but not really useful for longer unless you have a car.

To locate a tour guide you might contact either of these two agencies which have often received favorable mention on this board. Google will find them for you: Fantasy Travel or Dolphin-Hellas. Both are in Athens.
I'll also vote for the Holiday Inn Attica. It was probably the nicest Holiday Inn I've ever stayed in.
