eastern med cruise

we are cruising to Izmir, Turkey, Athens, Alexandria, and Valleta, Malta in Dec. We will be one day in each location except 2 in Alexandria. What sites are recommended as "must see"?

Martie, if you go to cruisecritic.com and click on "ports" and then onto Med.cruises, you will get some information. Of course, if you are in Alexandria for 2 days you will want to take a tour to Cairo to see the pyramids at Giza.

Valletta is very walkable and if you google Valletta Tourism you can get lots of info on what to see. There is a nice, though small, archeology museum there, if that is of interest. Also, the Lascaris War Rooms are fascinating.

I agree about Alexandria, Pyramids, Egyptian Museum, must do!

Izmir- Old city, cable car to top of high hill with shops, restaurant, views, beaches if you are inclined.

Athens- Acropolis, new Acropolis Museum, Agora, Plaka District, Temple of Zeus. You can take the metro from the port to the main city.

Valletta- Walking around the city is fun, but there are a lot of stairs! St John's Co- Cathedral is nice, plus the Palace of the Grand Masters. To get out of the city, consider Mdina (old walled city in the center of the island) and Tarxien (pronounced Tar-sheen) where there are some cool megalithic temples (UNESCO World Heritage sight). You can take buses or hire a taxi for the day (not expensive and may make the most of your time).

Any other stops on the trip?
