Eurostar on Monday morning!!

We're booking a day trip from London to Paris on the Eurostar...the first (and cheapest) departure is 5:45 in the morning!! We're okay with the early start but need to know if this is a bad time for commuters. We'll be staying at the Limetree Hotel and will need to take the tube to the station....Is this possible at this early hour? Does this sound "do-able"????

Considering you'll need to be at St. Pancras no later then 5:15, you'll have to leave your hotel 15-30 minutes before that. No tube at that hour or if it is, it will be the first train. Take a cab. Fare will be in the neighborhood of 15 GBP.

My suggestion would be to ask at your hotel for their advice. They would know best.

London is like New York City at 5:45, just getting going for rush hour. Depending on where you are starting from, the first tube in the morning will not get you there in time.

1: At Victoria take the Victoria line (direction Walthamstow Central).
2: Leave the train at King's Cross St. Pancras. Estimated journey time 11 minutes.

However the first tube train leaves 05:34 arrives 05:50, too late! And the bus routes don't really work from there that early.

You'll need to be there at 5:00 - 5:15 taking a cab should not be a problem. Have your hotel arrange one the night before.

Our train (Eurostar) leaves an hour later than yours, so we have already planned on taking a taxi rather than having the hassles of rushing to get a train and dealing with suitcases.

Good advice about a taxi. You probably will feel much more relaxed.

As others have said, it is too early for the tube. Take a taxi (arrange the night before at your hotel). There will be very little traffic this early in the morning.

If you ever need to check public transportation options, you can look up the options for your route on www.tfl.gov.uk. There are night buses, but personally, I'd just plan on the taxi.

I agree..we're going to order a taxi for the morning. No matter how nice the city is, I don't feel comfortable walking strange streets at 4:30 in the am ...just to find out subway doesn't start running until 6!!

After a week in London at the Lime Tree, we took a taxi to catch the morning Eurostar. The nice folks at the Lime Tree booked taxi in advance. Easy.

Have a wonderful trip.

Becky,

As you've already concluded, at that time of day a taxi from your hotel to St Pancras International is a very good choice.

However, others reading this thread might like to know that there is a night bus route that would work. Bus N73 departs from in front of Victoria train station and goes directly to King's Cross/St Pancras. Depart at 04:00 and arrive at 04:23 or depart at 04:30 and arrive at 04:53.
