Ironbridge Gorge?
Can anyone provide feedback on Ironbridge Gorge as a worthwhile stop? We (me, husband, 2 kids 9 and 10) are scheduling a full day there because of it looks historically interesting. BUT, I can't find much info to help me decide if it's worthwhile or hoaky. Any feedback would be appreciated. Also, recommendations on where to stay nearby would help (if we go.) Thanks!!

Rick devoted a segment of his TV show to Ironbridge Gorge, the bridge itself and the town's museums. You can see his script here for that episode. And you can view the whole show on Hulu (sorry USA only). After that you can read Rick's chapter on Ironbridge Gorge here including listings of where to stay.
Yes, it is certainly worth a stop, but maybe just on your way elsewhere. We stopped for 3 or 4 hours and it was absolutely fascinating. Your children are the right age to enjoy (and benefit from, but don't tell them that) this bit of Industrial Age history.
We were there quite a few years ago and liked it a lot. They have an open air museum there that is fantastic.
The Ironbridge website should be able to answer most of your questions

As you will see it is a World Heritage Site which, in theory, should help to ensure that it does not become a tacky visitor experience.
Yes, it is a great site. We spent several days there, but both my wife and I are interested the history of technology. With Kids, the Victorian Town might be worthwhile. We stayed at the Library, a great B&B.
I also echo watching Rick's TV segment, it was what convinced us to go there.

It is definitely worth a stop - the whole industrial revolution history right there - maybe not a overnight, but there are other places to see in that part of England. When we were there a huge military plane flew low through the canyon and over the bridge itself - would have been an incredible picture if we'd known it was coming.
Thanks all, we're going and are all looking forward to it. We LOVE "Discovery Channel" stuff, and this fits right in. Can't wait!
Love it love it. Don't forget Blists Hill. We stayed at the Meadow Inn in Ironbridge.
