Edinburgh in December
I'm going to be in Edinburgh for three days mid December. What are some "must see things" and inexpensive places to eat? I've read about the Edinburgh castle, Witchery tours, German Christmas market.

Royal Mile, especially in December the lights from George Street to the Edinburgh Eye are marvelous. Grassmarket, New Town, West End, Leith and The Royal Yacht Britannia.
I'd suggest you also "do" the Whisky Experience. It is just down the Royal Mile from the castle. You learn how whisky is made, the history of it in Scotland and at the end you get a "wee dram" sample of the day's whisky. It is done in a disneyesque ride format, and is a nice break to warm up or if it is rainy. You will enjoy the Christmas market and Princes St. Park is "dressed up" at that time of year with a skating rink and usually "fun fair" rides. I absolutely LOVE Edinburgh in December.
You'll have a great trip. Don't forget to venture over to the New Town side of Edinburgh. I really recommend The Georgian House. It's very interesting and is in a different part of Edinburgh. While you're in New Town have lunch or dinner at the Mussel Inn on Rose Street. Fishers in the City on THistle is good too, but I'm not sure I would call it inexpensive. You might think about touring the Royal Yacht Britannia in Leith. It a fascinating tour. The Shore Bar and Restaurant in Leith is good and affordable I think.
Don't miss out on the National Gallery if you're interested in art. They often have interesting shows as a well as local collection.
Your daylight will be limited, but if you have a nice day then a walk along Leith Water or up to Calton Hill or for the really ambitious up Arthur's Seat are great things to do as well.
There are lots of restaurants in Edinburgh. The Howies Restaurants tend to be economical and good. Check with TripAdvisor's Edinburgh forum as they have locals and can you some great tips on restaurants.

I also liked the National Gallery. It's within walking distance of the Royal Mile and is a great indoor activity when you are ready to get out of the cold.
If your time permits, consider taking a day-trip to Stirling. They've got a really nice castle there. There's a great pub, Whistlebinkies, that's easy walking distance from the castle. http://www.stirlingonvideo.co.uk/page-details.aspx?PageID=295

I highly recommend a tour of Mary King's Close.
Mary King's Close has a Christmas tour I believe. That was also on my list to see.
