Apartment Rental in Brussels
Two couples will be spending 5 days in Brussels as a central location to visit other areas. I have rented an apartment in Paris before and was wondering if anyone has rented an apartment in Brussels? Has anyone used VRBO? Or, used another rental agency? Thanks, Tom

VBRO is nice since you are working directly with the owner, rather than an agency. But every owner is different.
Another site to check to deal direct with the owner, but with some payment safeguards is airbnb.com. Owners list there, but you pay through a third party any deposits. Nice listings for Brussles there, look for "Entire home/apt" in the listings, or you'll be sharing the place with the owners!
try www.homeaway.com lots of apartment in brussels.
Hi Tom, We've used VRBO for rental in Paris as well and it's worked great for us so I think that it would be a good option.
We were in Brussels in October and used one of Rick Steves recommended hotels called Les Ecrins. They upgraded our reservation and gave us an apartment for 90 EUR (I think the regular rate is 125 EUR.) We thought the apartment was great--small kitchen, separate bedroom, living room with flat screen TV, and wireless internet. It's a very short walk from the St. Catherine metro station and about 10 minutes from the Grand Place. You can check their website to see if the location and appointments meet your needs.
Nearly forgot to mention that it included a delicious breakfast (croissants, jams, juice, and cheese) that was delivered to our door each morning--we were able to make our own coffee/tea in our kitchen.
Tom, when we rent apts in Europe we usually rent from VRBO.com, and Homelidays.com.
As with any rental agency make sure that you rent a unit that has been listed for a while. It is really helpful if it has lots of good reviews.
I always ask for the address, turn on Google maps, and check out the street view. If it is on a main street I acknowledge that it may be noisy. This also lets me check out the neighborhood.
