Best transportation options London-Vicenza-Adelboden-London?
Our family of 5 (mom, dad, 3 teens) will be visiting family in Vicenza in May 2010. Tentative itinerary includes (round trip) flight to London from RDU, 2 days in London, flight to Vicenza for 5 days, train to Adelboden for 2 days, then flight to London (from Bern?) and home. RT air seemed so much cheaper, but getting from Adelboden to London is an extra step. Is there a better way to arrange/sequence this? Thank you!

Check skyscanner.net and/or flycheapo.com for European airlines that serve your cities.
Yes, I've been using the sites I've read about on these boards for several months to look at fares and plan out an itinerary. What I'm looking for now is confirmation that what I've planned is the best way of getting where we want to go. Our dates are flexible, around May 17-27. I would like to hear comments and suggestions as traveling to Europe is all brand new to me. Any tips would be appreciated!
Are you sure that round trip is cheaper? I have not found that to be the case in my experience. Don't forget you have to factor in the money (and time) it takes to get back to your original destination.

Here is a page that talks about all the different ways to get to Abelboden.
Check fares from Home to London and Bern back home using the big sites like Travelocity or Expedia on carriers like Lufthansa. Also check skyscanner.net for discount fares on European airlines from London to Italy and Bern back to London in case you can't find good fares on a multi-city trip trans-Atlantic routing.
I suggest that you fly open jaw (multi-city) RDU-London and Zurich-RDU. No backtracking to London. Take the train from Adelboden to Zurich.
I assume that you are going to fly from London to Venice and then take a train to Vicenza. Your budget airline choices are Heathrow-Marco Polo on BMI, Gatwick-Marco Polo on easyJet, Stansted-Treviso on Ryanair, and Stansted-Marco Polo (connection in Dusseldorf) on Air Berlin.
