Bus and Train Schedules In/Out of Florence

Help? I having been trying to find an on-line source, that I can read, that really tells when buses and trains go in and out of Florence, Italy (SMN). Specifically I need to find buses to get to San Gimignano and Volterra, resepctively, and back again before all transportation, e.i. bus and taxi, ends for the night in Florence. Grazie, David Jones

No problem finding a user-friendly train schedule:

http://www.bahn.de/international/view/en/index.shtml

The only 2 bus schedules for Florence/Tuscany, that I know of, are not so user-friendly:

bus schedules Tuscany

For train schedules, you can also visit the Italian railways website www.trenitalia.it. It's been recently upgraded and is available in English, but you must use the Italian names of towns (e.g. Firenze rather than Florence).

Have you considered renting a car and driving there yourself? Or you might utilize a tour company that goes to these specific locations and that way you wouldn't have to decipher and rely on the public system.

Frank I think you have that confused maybe? If you are on the Trenitalia site in English, you can use the English names for the cities -

Here is the English site: http://trenitalia.com/homepage_en.html

For the location of the SITA station and some links to schedules, etc. try this SITA BUS STATION, FLORENCE

Great ideas. Thank you. Does anyone know of a bus tour out of Florence that goes specifically to San Gimignano and Volterra? Grazie

If you already have hotel booked, try consulting them. We found our hoteliers or B&B keepers to be an invaluable resource in helping us plan just such excursions. We also found that taking the bus (something I admit we'd not even thought about) turned out to be fun, economical, and easy in that area.
