Food markets vs. street markets in London

Two years ago, I happened upon Borough Market while exploring London's South Bank area and had a memorable time strolling around the stalls, munching samples and splurging on homemade truffles. My husband and I will be in London again next month:

-- Are markets as vibrant in winter as the rest of the year?

-- Do all markets sell food, or are some strictly for clothes/wares shopping?

-- What are some favorites?

Check out my favorite market- Covent Garden. It has a different focus (and different vendors) every day of the week. I LOVE to go and just wander the stalls and people watch.

Here is a comprehensive list of London markets. It includes genuine local and specialist markets as well as the ones which have become "attractions".

One I used to visit regularly when working in London was "Leather Lane" in Holborn (food, clothes and housewares). It is some years since I last visited so don't know how it may have changed.
