Where to stop between Conwy, Wales and Luton Airport?

We are driving from North Wales to Luton Airport in mid-December and would like suggestions where to overnight. I'm thinking about Shrewsbury or Warwick. We need to drop the car mid-morning.

Simple, see both. Shrewsbury is only a couple hours from Conwy, even by the secinc route through Snowdonia (which I would suggest). Poke around S'bury for a couple hours and have a bite to eat. Then an hour and a half to Warick which is antique heaven in the town. The castle is kind of super-touristy and will probably be a disappointment if you've seen many of the Welsh castles. Luton is then in very easy stiking distance the next morning.
