Where should I go in central Italy for the best museums and sites for Etruscan ruins?

Orvieto also has quite a bit for such a small town. And it's an easy train ride from Rome, if that's where you'll be.

Cerveteri is one of the best. I didn't go to the museum but I did go see all the Etruscan tombs, they let you walk around them and also go inside them. It was a very pretty place and not too far from Rome either, you just head up the Via Aurelia.

This site has a suggested route around the various sites in Northern Lazio. We enjoyed our visits to Tarquinia and Viterbo.

In addition to Orvieto and Volterra, Cortona has a great Etruscan Museum.

Orvieto had some Etruscan era remnants. The tombs Claire suggests are on my must see for the next time in the area.

I'm with Sharon, Cortona has not only a great Etruscan museum, but there are ruins everywhere in the area...George
