berlin -- prague
I'll be spending 8 days in Berlin and Prague in early April, beginning and ending in Berlin. What would be the best distribution of time, and what are the "must sees" for both Berlin and Prague?

There is so much to do in each city, but much depends on your interests. Have you looked through the forum here at all for sites in either place?
Berlin is larger, but again, depending on your interest, you might want to spend more time there.
Prague is beautiful, but you can see a lot of it in 2 or 3 days. Berlin is a big city and takes more time. The "must sees" for Prague will be pretty obvious as you walk around town. For Berlin, you will need to do some research to plan your time. What to see will depend on what you're interested in.
I agree with spending more time in Berlin. Prague is beautiful, but there is more to see and do in Berlin. You could also visit Potsdam easily from Berlin. In fact, I recommend it. There are so many museums to visit in Berlin, plus Charlottenburg Palace. And then there is the symphony and all the cultural events. Plus there are the parks. Ah, so much and there is terrific public transportation and great food.
This sounds like maybe I didn't like Prague, and I did like it! ; )

If going between Prague and Berlin by rail, you can get advance purchase tickets online from the German Rail website for as low as €29 per person with a Europa-Spezial Tschechien fare.
I hate conflicting with other advice, but I'd spent a little more time in Prague. It's BEAUTIFUL and will be especially gorgeous in April! I honestly didn't like Berlin very much - it doesn't have much charm to me since it was blown to smithereens in WWII and rebuilt, so it just kind of looks like an American city... But I'll admit that I'm biased because it HAILED TWICE when I was there (in March) and my tour group got lost at one point for a couple hours...
Anyway, definitely explore the square, Charles Bridge, and Lesser town in Prague. In Berlin, there are a ton of great museums, Checkpoint Charlie, the wall and other historical sites. One cool thing I did was a tour of an underground bunker used during the War.
