Driving Into Dublin To Get To ABC Guesthouse
I have read all the posts about NEVER driving in Dublin and NEVER get near the city center.
We will be driving to Dublin from Cashel to the ABC Guesthouse (57 Drumcondra Road Upper, Dublin 9, Ireland) in early September.
Our directions say to take M7 to M50, exit 1 to city center, then exit onto N1.
We should get into Dublin around 6pm. We have driven in Australia in their cities, so we have had some practice.
My questions are:
What is the best way to pay for the toll on M50?
Is driving on M50, 1, and N1 considered the city center where all the crazy traffic is?

I know I can use the eFlow but we are picking the car up in Shannon. Can I get an eFlow there when I get the car?
I'd say the Swords road is easy enough. It's more the cross traffic, one way streets in the City center that is a mess.
Ask the rental car place about the M50 toll. I've never paid it since they instituted the non-toll booth version and they've always told me it's included in the rental fee at Hertz
Like a lot of the things people say to NEVER do, they are often not so bad. I wouldn't sweat it, take your time, and have directions in advance.
What I wouldn't do is to land in Dublin, pick up a car at the airport and drive into City Centre, especially if you have never driven in Britain or Ireland. Since you will have some "warm up" time to get acclimated to the driving conditions and the car, I don't think it will be so bad.
I'd much rather drive in Dublin than in Rome, that is for sure!
I will ask the car company if the fee includes the toll. I have been to rome the traffic was crazy. I wanted to make sure the roads I would driving were not bad traffic.
The M1, M50 and N1 are not too crazy, just parts are under construction, but there is signage to show exits(if there has been a change). You can have a look at the AA site www.aaroadwatch.ie and see what traffic is like on the day you will be driving to Dublin. I always check this site before I start on a trip.
I avoid driving in Dublin if at all possible.
When you pick up the car, ask about paying the toll. You can pay it at many convenience stores or online.

Why not drop off your car and take public transit to your B&B? You won't need a car in Dublin, and it's just not worth the expense or the aggravation.
I thought about dropping my car off to save money but we will arrive in Dublin and the next day we are driving to northern Ireland. After that we will drop off the car at the airport and use the public transportation.
