Ferry vs Air to Ireland

Have 2-3 days to spend in Ireland while on GBR trip. Is it easier to take a car across on a ferry or dump the car and fly? We haven't decided which cities in Ireland to visit so are open to all ideas.

All kinds of problems taking car to/from UK to Ireland; don't even think about it. I've even left one sitting at Holyhead, ferried, and rented another.

Fly.

I'd say fly. We flew from Edinburgh to Shannon. Took about 1 1/2 hours and I think was less then $100. It was worth not having the hassle with the ferry and all.

Fly. For the sake of time, hassle, and more choices of destinations. It's easy to rent a car in Ireland if you decide you want one.

Definitely fly. We tried to plan a car/ferry trip and it is a huge hassle, very time consuming, and insurance may not cover you once you cross. Avoid Ryan Air - they have a very "screw you" kind of attitude if you need any kind of help.

We were originally planning on taking a train/ferry from GBR to IRE on our trip, but it's faster and costs the same (if not cheaper) to fly, so that's what we'll be doing.
