Barcelona

My husband and I have an apt. (near Picasso Museum) the first two weeks of April. Would love suggestions for day or 2 day trips, resturants etc.

Hi Beth - Here are some restaurant suggestions:

Les Quatres Gats - Picasso did the picture on the front of the menu. A bit touristy but good food.

La Tomaquera - In a neighborhood, not in a tourist area

Cuines Santa Caterina - loved it

Restaurant Peru - for paella

La Bouqueria market

Just a unrelated note. The Picasso Museum is closed for renovation until 2013.

Ignore my note above on Barcelona Picasso Museum. I was thinking of the Paris Picasso Museum which is closed until 2013.

The obvious trips out of Barcelona would be up or down the coast for some nicer beach areas, the water gets clearer and the sand sandier the further you get from the city, the communities around Blanes would probably be good choices.

Other choices to the north include Girona, a popular medieval town, and Figueras and Cadaques. I'm not much into Dali; if you are, Figueras is probably a great choice.

Sitges, to the south, has become a popular gay resort.

Montserrat is another choice about an hour to the west for a day trip.

If you enjoy visiting archaeological sites, Empuries, on the Costa Brava, is a good one. There are both Greek and Roman ruins dating back as far as the 6th century BCE. In addition, a museum houses some of the finds and has reconstructions demonstrating life in those ancient times.
