College dorms in DUblin
Does anyone have any experience with summer rooms at either Trinity College or University College Dublin?

Yes, in the summer of 2005, 4 of us stayed at Trinity College. A dorm room has 2 seperate single bedrooms w/ a sink and a 'living' room in the middle. The shower is down the hall. Inexpensive and extremely quiet! You are within the walls of the college with a view of the campus greens. In addition, breakfast is included in the price. Finally, it is just a short walk to most of Dublin sites! I highly recommend a Trinity College stay.
PS....Dublin and Ireland are such a great and fun experience!
I stayed in a single room at Trinity for one night in Aug. 05. My hotel was full when I wanted to extend, so I cast about for alternatives.
My room was tiny, cinder-block construction on the far side of campus next to Pearse station. The building rattled at regular intervals from the DART trains pulling in/out.
You had to card into the building, the wing, the floor and the room. Felt like a prison, though the price was right for one night. In comparison, my comfy room at the Harding Hotel, down the street was a much better bargain. At that point, they offered a discount (10%?) if you mentioned Rick's book.
Good luck! Summer lodgings in Dublin are expensive- try the hostels or B&Bs in Dun Laoghaire- very quick to get into town on the DART.
It's a university dorm, why would anyone expect a four star hotel accommodation? It's spartan but no worse than any hostel I've been in - and far better than some. Keycard security is a nice bonus that beats out many hostels - though I would say Sleepzone hostel in Galway is better than the droms. Anyway, I've used a single there for a few nights in late June 2005 during the three U2 concerts happening then. Trinity College has an excellent location, the room is cheap and all you need is a safe place to sleep and shower. Even includes breakfast at hostel prices. Why pay for more than that?
