Arhem, Holland
I know Arnhem is not on anyone's top 20 or even top 50 places to visit in Europe, but it does have interest to World War II history buffs since it is the site of Operation Market Garden, the largest airborne operation ever. There are quite a few British tourists here since they took the brunt of the casualties in the fighting. Also, the movie A Bridge Too Far is about the operation. Otherwise, Arnhem has a zoo and another museum.

and a really neat castle and grounds just a few km southeast. Too bad you didn't get there...
Arnhem also has on its immediate vicinity/suburbs
- a national park, the best place in Europe to see how the lowlands of Northern Europe looked in their natural state (there is a nice museum in the park, I dare to say, the best museum in The Netherlands)
- a very interesting zoo (Burgers Zoo)
Arnhem and Eindhoven are quite interesting around the anniversary of MARKET GARDEN, 16 September.Have seen commemorative airdrops at the British LZs west of Arnhem and some pretty awesome parades. Lots of dirty looks driving around in a Mercedes with German plates.
