Rome weekend
This trip report won't apply to most people in here, but there may be some nugget of useful information for the wider audience. Took a bus trip from Germany to Rome on Labor Day weekend. This is, of course, a bargain basement tour company, but for less than $300, it included room, breakfast x2, and skip the line at the VM. A 14 hour bus ride is never "fun", but it depends on the group, and how much champagne is brought on board the bus. Left Germany at 930pm Thursday, and arrived in Rome at 1pm the following day after a breakfast stop. Did the usual city orientation tour. Been to Rome several times, but this time the guide showed the group how to use the Rome Metro. Interesting way to get things started.
Hotel: Massimi near the Cipro stop. Would not recommend staying here unless you are confident using public trans (Cipro then 990 bus). It is a 4 star place.
Started at the Spagna stop which is the Spanish Steps then Trevi then past Parliament ending at the Colisseum. Fairly standard tourist route. We went back to the hotel from the Colisseum line (B) line / transfer at Termini (A).
It was now about 5pm so most people wanted to check in, shower, and eat.
