Camino de Santiago

I will be able to walk only the final portion of the Camino but would like to see Leon and the countryside leading up to where I begin my walk. If I were to begin walking to Santiago at Triacastela, for example, could I travel to Triacastela from Leon by bus or other public transportation?

It isn't easy. You would have to take a bus from Leon to Lugo
http://www.movelia.es/es/#

And connect there with a bus to Sarria
http://sarria.es/pdf/c_lugo.pdf
And take a taxi to Triacastela. From there would walk back to Sarria - about 25km

Since Sarria is on the Camino it would be simpler to start there.

Nadine, I walked the Camino in 2010 from St Jean Pied du Port to Santiago, I have some websites that you might find helpful, I've sent them to you in a PM. Since you're walking the final part of the Camino you'll find it a lot more crowded than before Leon, as you probably know people do this aspect to qualify for their Compostela. I highly recommend using private alburgues and calling ahead for reservation to the next place you desire to stay, the places fill up quickly, the owners of the privates will often do this for you, they only cost a euro or two more and have many more amenities, this was the only part of the Camino that I felt rushed and needed to check into an alburgue earlier than I normally did. If you have any questions feel free to contact me
