Anstey, UK
I would like to get help from anyone on how to get to Anstey from Gatwick. Am flying on a free pass so have to go through Gatwick. Have looked up lots of info and can't find what I need. Also, there is a church there that has a stained glass window with names of air force men who were stationed there in WWII and died in action while based there. Unfortunately since I moved recently can't find the info I need other than I do have a picture of the window with my father's name on the window. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

From the information you have supplied I have worked out you are looking for Anstey in Hertfordshire, rather than the one in Leicestershire or Hampshire. Some brief info on the church here: http://www.ansteyvillage.co.uk/church/
This is a very rural location - it has two buses in each direction per WEEK (Mondays and Wednesdays). It is 6 miles from Royston - there is a bus at least one way on Wednesday otherwise it would be a taxi (or drive yourself if you are comfortable with this).
From Gatwick to get to Royston by public transport take the train from Gatwick to St Pancras, and take the train to Royston from the adjacent Kings Cross station. Or alternatively drive.
Like Marco, I was also trying to work out which Anstey and concluded Hertfordshire. There is no point me repeating the journey details already suggested, but you may be interested in these two sites I came across (the first is from the 398th association so perhaps already familiar to you?)

It did occur to me that some rural churches are not always open when there is no service, but according to the CofE site, this one is. Nevertheless, here is its entry should you wish to contact the vicar in advance of your visit:

Thanks so much. Have been to St. Paul's where his name in is the memorial book and his grave in France so the last place need or should say want to go to is Anstey. This is the info have been looking for, have the 398th website and the one for AWON (American War Orphans Network) and of course the web but could not find what I needed and you have been so helpful. His last crew member alive is one who gave me the pictures but could not help much. Anyway, appreciate help.
