Milan
Did a road trip / day trip to Milan, and it's too bad Milan is not mentioned in the top places to visit in Italy. About a 8-9 hours from central Germany through Switzerland and the St Gotthard tunnel. Milan does not have alot of the "ooh aah" sites like Rome and Florence, but its Duomo is impressive, and it's definitely not as chaotic as Rome. As for seing the Last Supper painting, tickets are gone months in advance, but you can go into the church. Milan is the business hub of Italy, and it doesn't try to be much more than that. The drive back through Switzerland is impressive as well.
