We stayed in Bourges, pretty much on the way, great cathedral. Are you driving? Don't know how it would work by train.

We stayed in a "cave" in Limeray, near Amboise, had a great dinner 3 minutes from there-then two chateaux nearby; one on the drive into the area, one on the drive south to Oradour-sur-Glane and Beynac.
