St. Pancras Station
Is the St. Pancras Station a safe area to stay in? Or is there another area that would be more central to all the attractions. we'll probably want to take one of those bus tours, hop on and hop off so whereever those are? Some place in an area where we will feel safe. St. Pancras is thought, because of the EuroStar and we come into London here. Need something very reasonable in price too. Maybe you found a treasure spot, B & B. or little unknown Inn,let us know, thanks. any thoughts?

I stayed within walking distance to St. Pancras this summer. I felt safe there. It is a long-ish walk to the City/St. Pauls area. It is also quite close to the British Library and British Museum. There are lots of b&bs there. I stayed at the Jesmond Dene, which was fine but nothing special. The price was right however - 90 pounds per night for a twin room with shared hall bathroom. Price included breakfast. Overall I would stay there again due to the cost.
What do you consider a reasonable price? I stayed at Vancouver Studios for 75 pounds per night, in a single room with my own bathroom and a kitchenette (fridge, two-burner cooktop, microwave). The hotel is in Bayswater, northwest of The City. I liked the area and felt safe walking around at night by myself. There are 2 Tube stops near the hotel (Bayswater on the Circle and District lines and Queensway on the Central line) which was very convenient because some lines are closed on weekends for planned construction. As long as you're near a Tube stop, you can get to the attractions.
Thanks Adrianne & Sarah. anyone else stayed in the St. Pancras area, at a B & B or reasonable inn or hotel. By reasonable I think I'd mean around $70 euro's or there abouts... because with the exchange rate it gets up there. Thanks
We've stayed in the Jesmond Hotel on Gower Streetnot too far from St. Pancras, close to the British Museum, bus stop right in front. I just checked and its 100 pounds for a double with ensuite bathroom and breakfast.

Used airbnb and we stayed with a fella for 40GBP...it wasn't St Pancreas area, it was near the cricket grounds in the Vauxhall/Pimlico area of the subway stops, but maybe you should check out airbnb.com...lots of great, well priced accom...

We stayed at The George Hotel in 2006 and will stay there again this December. It is in a great location within walking distance of St. Pancras and the Britsh Museum. We always felt safe walking in the area. They serve a great English breakfast. Here's a link to their site:

Thanks for the advice. Vanessa, I think I'd seen The George while doing a search. Might look into that. Did you find that you could get around to the sights easily from here? Never been to London before. Thanks
If that's the George across from the BBC, it must be a mile and a half to St Pancras.
Thanks Nicole... Hey I know where Truro is. We did the usual touristy thing... the Tidal Bore. it was amazing to this Prairie girl :) Okay, I've heard a lot about this airbnb.com. I think I'll have to check it out. Looks like the prices will be good . Thanks for the info.
Yeah..the Tidal Bore is one of those things I never really bothered to see - we did go watch it with a couchsurfer guy from Germany a few weeks ago - like people who live anywhere with touristy stuff - you usually don't pay much attention to it yourself. :)
We used airbnb for 5 of our stays on our Sept trip - in Florence, Villefranche, Paris, Bath and London. Our spot in Florence was a 15th c villa very close to the buses for $45 a night! There are some great deals - just make sure you read the feedback - because there are some who I wouldn't stay with if they paid me...you can also check out the map of the area to get a feel for where it is...

Nicole - we passed though Truro driving back from Halifax last summer, planned an overnight, and since timing was working was saw the TIdal Bore (and again on our way to Hopewell Rocks the next day). It's interesting, but that's about it. Some guidebooks make it out to be a lot more than it is. Truro is a pretty little town.There are much more amazing places to see the Fundy effects.

We booked 5 nights at the Jesmond Dene for the very reason you outlined, proximitity to St. Pancras. However, we lasted one night, it was the dumpiest, smallest room and bathroom we have encountered in all our travels. We checked out after one night and moved to the Ibis Euston. Great choice. It's adjacent to Euston Station just off the Euston Road.

I can't advise on accommodation, I've only stayed in some of the many Travelodge's around there and which probably are not what you are looking for (basic and "corporate", though you can get one cheap if you book in advance), but on you other two questions:
- yes, its safe - the King's Cross area used to be a sleazy hell-hole, but its massively changed over the last decade or so (though I wouldn't walk alone in the early hours in some of the streets behind the two stations, heading north - however, that may be more paranoia on my part than real risk)
- nowhere is completely central to all the attractions, but this is a good place in that respect and, importantly, has excellent tube and bus connections to those places you are likely to go which are too far to walk.
