Trieste of Ljubljana for New Years Eve

We have the opportunity of spending New Years Eve with 2 teenagers either in Trieste or Ljubljana...which one would be more festive?

I can't speak about NY eve specifically, however, I've been to both cities in mid-November. I'd choose Ljubljana, as we found it lively, welcoming, and cozy. Trieste is more of a big, somewhat impersonal city, and when it's cold in Trieste it is daunting as the winds are fierce. Ljubljana memories: mushroom soup in a bread bowl, fried smelt, serious hot chocolate.
No brainer - Ljubljana, home of the largest university in Slovenia.
Not been there New Year's Eve but have been to both. Ljubljana an easy choice. It's a fun place and should be even more fun at that time of the year. To be fair; Trieste is a lovely destination area but for your purpose, the Slovenian capital would be preferable, at least in my opinion.
