Austria-Westbahn railway

Traveling between Salzburg and Vienna next week. Anyone have any experience with Westbahn? I think it's a local train traveling between Salzburg and Vienna. Visiting the Christmas markets in Salzburg, Linz, and Vienna. Love to hear others experience in doing the same.
Thanks!
Denise

Hi,

"Anyone have any experience with Westbahn?"

It was exactly between Vienna and Salzburg this summer, got on the Westbahn train at Wien Westbahnhof, had a rail Pass so when ticket time came, I was told the rail Pass was not accepted on Westbahn. I had the choice of buying a ticket from the controller or getting off at the next stop... St. Pölten. I chose to get off.

It provides a better service than OBB on that route. It is not a local train, it is a private competitor to the former state monopolistic operator.

It is like Italo trains in Italy, or Thello

If you go to Tripadvisor, Austria, there are multiple, favorable discussions about the Westbahn service. Just do a search for it.

We plan to ride it next week Salzburg->Vienna ourselves. You can buy a ticket on the train.

Riding Westbahn using their free wifi. Works great. 25 euros per person Salzburg to Wien. Pay on train. Roomy with table between facing pair of seats. Fast as ICE.
