Where besides London?
I am flying to London in March 20 of next year and fly out the 31. I'm going to spend most of the time in London, but would like to spend 3 or 4 nights at the beginning of my trip some place else. I was thinking maybe York or Bath. Maybe the Cotswolds. Any ideas?

Do you have a particular interest in mind - cathedrals, battles, culture, walking, sport?
Anyway, as first suggestions, assuming no car and that you are flying into Heathrow, go to Bristol for 3 nights, and use as a base for day trips to Bath and Cardiff (both by train), plus a day in Bristol itself. Or go to Oxford for three nights and use as a base for a day-trip to Bath (by train) and a bus tour of either the south or north Cotswolds, plus time in Oxford and Blenheim Palace.
Or if you are flying into Gatwick, head to Brighton and then rent a car to go around the South Downs and along the south coast.
Or forget all that and go north to Yorkshire and spend 4 days in God's Own County - York, the Dales and the coast in particular
You can easily take the train to Bath, for the day. We also took a bus tour day trip to the Cotswolds. We used Gray Line, which subcontracts it out in London. The bus day trips allow you to stay at one hotel and just do day trips outside of London. We also took the train to Oxford for the day and to Cambridge.
The Cotswolds would be my first choice. Lots of great B&B's and small hotels, typical English Cottages, and the Cotswold Way walking path if you feel like hiking. Peace and quiet.
My second choice would be York, with its grand York Minster and city walls. Lots to see in York. Lots of interesting Viking and Roman Britain history there.
